Description

Blue Crown Conures are primarily green, with dull blue coloring on the forehead, crown, cheeks, and ears. Around each eye, the bird has a ring of white featherless skin, and the breast feathers usually have a yellow-green coloring. The tail feathers are green on top, maroon to red-brown on the underside.

Origin of Blue Crown Conure

The Blue Crown Conure is native to great parts of South America, from eastern Colombia in the north to northern Argentina in the south. They inhabit grassland, forest margins, and semi-arid regions.

Temperament

The Blue-crowned conure is one of the smartest and friendliest. They are social birds who crave company and attention. If they don’t live with a bird friend, they will need hours of human interaction every day to keep them happy. Blue-crowned conures are intelligent enough to learn tricks and can be taught to talk more quickly than other conure species. They are good pets for families because they are social, gentle, and rarely try to bite when properly raised.

However, blue-crowned conures are noisy birds, preferring to communicate through loud screeching. They are playful and affectionate birds who will need plenty of toys and exercise to keep them stimulated. These are not birds who are content to live quietly in their cages without regular attention or interactions. They prefer daily time out of their cage, interacting with their human family. Behavior or health problems may occur if the blue-crowned conure is left alone too often or doesn’t get enough daily mental and physical exercise.

Caring for the Blue-crowned Conure

Blue-crowned conures have a playful reputation. They carry so much energy. They are very affectionate and social birds. They do not just bond with their owners but with anyone that gives them attention and care. An adorable trait about this species that qualifies them as pet birds is that they rarely bite. If upset or excited, they will only worsen the situation. Sadly no training can turn this noisy bird into a quiet one. However, they are not the loudest of the conure species.
Conures should be fed a proper diet to keep them happy and jovial. A regular diet should include nuts, veggies, small-sized pasta, fruits, cooked chicken or turkey, pellets, and other bits and pieces of food. Many would prefer boiled vegetables to fresh ones.

Their cages are A worth noting item on the list. A spacious square or rectangular cage appropriate is most preferable. Advisably, do a thorough checking of the security mechanism of the cage before purchase. Their Cage size should be approximate; 24″ W x 24″ H x 24″ D and Bar spacing of 5/8″ to 3/4″. The cage should be a strong one (wrought iron, stainless steel) so it can withstand the conure’s tough beak.
