Description

The Jenday Conures are very closely related to the Sun Conure. They look almost exactly the same. The only difference is that Jenday Conures have dark green wings and back feathers with blue-tipped wings and tail feathers. The Jenday Conure is a beautiful bird with a yellow head, an orange front, and green wings. It is hard to tell the difference when they are young because the Sun Conure has the same green as Jenday Conures before their first molt.

Origin of the Jenday Conures

These little conures are found naturally in a pretty large region centered in northern Brazil. They live in lowland woodlands, palm groves, and dense growth. They are relatively common in the wild and are one of the few species that has benefited from forest clearing.

Temperament

Jenday Conures have a wonderful, loving personality. They make excellent pets (like all Conures) as long as you can deal with some noise every now and then. Jenday Conures are known to be just as sweet as Sun Conures, but usually with a slightly cheaper price tag (since they aren’t considered by many to be “as pretty” as Sun Conures).

Jenday Conure As A Pet

The Jenday Conure is a fantastic pet. They are very affectionate and will readily accept attention from anyone. They enjoy being scratched and enjoy having their feathers stroked. It is not uncommon to see this Conure initiate being petted by bending its head forward.

They need to be strong with their owners, and many will climb inside their owner’s shirts. Once there, many will find a cozy spot and peak through a sleeve or the neck opening. These Conures will gladly stay tucked inside your shirt until removed.

Care and Feeding

Jenday Conure in the wild love to eat a careful selection of seeds, nuts, insects, and fruit blossoms. Their needs are met with a specially created seed mix, commonly found in pet stores as a pet. You should add a healthy dose of fresh fruits and vegetables and cuttlebone for an amount of needed calcium. Another vital part of their care is the free space. As they are little, they are also very energetic. You need to allow them a lot of open space to fly, explore and goof around. It is the foundation of good health and makes any parrot happy.
